I am usually a linguistic purist myself, but in this case I agree with bending the rules a bit. First of all, it works nicely with the over all concept of MagiQuest. Second, there isn't an uglier spoken word in the English (well, Latin) language than Magus. It sounds like a lot like "maggots" and rhymes with hagis and in fact everything in this vocal neighborhood is really fugly one way or another.

Magi on the other hand is a beautiful sounding word.

IMHO of course...

i tend to agree with Nerfy re magus, that word always creeped me out, i think there was a Fowles novel by that name that had a creepy ending too which is part of my subconscious antipathy....

either way, Magi is a cool name and fun to work with. also IMHO. :)

I agree the word Magi pronounced like Majee as it is right now gives the game a little class. Nothing says that everything has to be according to the strict rules of Enlish either, particularly if like other Cyan games they will go for the international audience including the Japanese who are avid game players. Just my two cents. :D

This is an elision of Magic Quest and the i in Magi is short. There's no reason for a vowel shift as well as the elision.

Hi, y'all; just finished reading the umpteen pages prior to this, as I only just got into the game a few days ago. The "magi" thing grates on my nerves also and the voice needs to be changed too. But also, when I get out of avatar customization, the tutorial has already started. I think I have only missed a few words, but it's not good especially if you are a young child. Also, We know that you have to zap the torches to get the blue and green stones to work; but a young child does not. No where in the tutorial, does the voice instruct about the torches. I take directions very literal at times, just like a child and only stumbled onto the torches accidentally. It would be quite frustrating for a little one. Just my two cents.

Hi Budgie :) You probablly ran into the 2nd portal. the one on the right from your enty point. If you walk to the 1st portal, straight ahead, the tutoral does say something about just touching the portal. And that portal then works, without the zapping of torches.
Of course, if one is in a hurry and zaps all the white, green and blue cristals within a second of entering the area, the tutoral get's a bit messy

I had to get off the Latin scholar horse when I realised that for all the uses of medium / media, stadium / stadia, no-one ever says premia. :)

I suspect the term Magi (plural of Magus) was used because in the RL setting there appeared to be more than one person playing at the time (at least from the videos it looked like groups were) so of course you would refer to more than one, using the term Magi. I suppose the wording should be adjusted for the individual player online since you would be starting this alone but eventually be with other Magi which then again it would apply....
