Now this is fascinating - speculation can run rife here <grin>

Now it appears that Cyan may have some mental time free, and MOUL may actually rise from the semi-zombie status it has occupied?

I have to say that I'm truly surprised. Given that the list of participants aren't all coders, I'm assuming that they are temporarily postponing the open-source route. [Plus the fact that Chogon said it will be "MystOnline: UruLive pretty much the way it was at the end of being on GameTap"]

So, now that we are no longer pursuing MORE/OSMO, how will fan-created ages make their way into this universe?

I wouldn't make those kinds of assumptions. Bringing up a shard is just step 0, or maybe step -1, in whatever roadmap Cyan is going to make. Heck, they might not even know what's up the road a ways, let alone us. ;) A starting point is just that. You need something to test the code on, right?

Since only a percentage of testers are going to be allowed to participate initially maybe the ones that they want now are those that have experience in the shards or age building so I wouldn't bemoan open source yet.

But I'm confused at how this thread appears before Chogon's announcement?

I am honoured to be included. Testing is Testing, URU is URU, and any form of the Cavern is what the Community wants. Lets be testers and keep our focus on the job, and let the future take care of it self.

I am overjoyed to see this step!

thank you Cyan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I suspect that this initial testing will be necessary before any attempt can be made to bring the Writers online. Knowing that the servers are capable is a good first step. I see this first effort as laying the groundwork for the true Open Uru that will come later.

Just thinking out loud here, I wonder if Cyan will apply recent lessons learned from the MQO beta?

This becomes a bit confusing! :?
Seen we do have 2 topics with the same title "Hello", I will change this topictitle into "Speculations"
This to avoid confusion and to keep this forum clear to read.

thank you V, much appreciated. I think that is a good idea as we can happily think about possiblities here, and say hello to each other over there. Great idea.

There were a few things that were broken with MOUL when it closed in April of 08' including the Minkata sparklie which has to be set by hand by the ResEngs, and I believe a few issues with the KI, but overall other thatn lag and pipulation limits when things got too crowded in one area, the build was remarkably stable.

One thing i am speculating on, and thinking about, the wonderful possiblity that we will get ResEngs again, at least one, to help with the daily activity and help with any problems that come up. They would not have to be in there all the time but that orieintation part that they played was a vital role in helping keep the Cavern alive and vital and to help new players. Surely the Guild of Greeters will return, so that will help a lot too, but sometimes people do get stuck in walls or need help of a technical nature, ie the sparklie. It would be great to see the blue helmets again.

But for now, we have testing to do in detail, links and all the game triggers to test and re test. this will be exciting to say the least.

There is a really cool looking iPhone applicationfor the pod portals and day and night cycles. I don't own an iPhone, so I'm just wondering if it will work...

Cyan's free mental time is going to come in spurts. The current one is because we got MQO ready for launch and Creative Kingdoms is catching up (now it is JW and company's time to be swamped, so "shhhh", we can't tell anyone that JW is in this group ;-) ).

And JW is right, we have to do this in steps. And in sometimes in very small steps. But all of the roadmap is still there. There will be plenty starts and stops and starts all along the way.

Thanks,
Mark

If you want MQO to launch on time, then you should probably hide this section from JW until after it's launched. :P

na, he can take it. We want JW with us, he has worked very hard on MQ along with all of us, and he deserves a chance to be in the first dive into MOUL.
