Upcoming Radio Free D'ni this Sunday :) It will be Prog Folk, a genre that covers a multitude of interpretations, without ever quite getting as histrionic as Yes (but coming close at times) Mal may not make it this week so it could just be Ed and me :)

Some old and some new stuff is on hand, including Gryphon
Gentle Giant
Decameron
Malicorne
Al Stewart
John Martyn
Horslips
Amazing Blondel
Lindisfarne
The Bothy Band
Davy Spillane
and The Strawbs

Meet in the plaza - concert will start at 1300 KI and run till 1500 (that's 8 to 10 pm UK time, 9 to 11 pm Western Europe) with some pre-show and post-show music so you can tune in your music players to the stream.

Put http://aegura.harriman4.com/8000.php in your browser to select the way you want to listen to us
or
plug http://aegura.harriman4.com:8000/stream.mp3 into your audio player of choice: proved to work with Winamp and VLC player.

Edison Rex, Malaclypse and AlanDJ - your Radio Free D'ni team.

Radio Free D'ni did its own impression of a swan last night - serene and graceful on the surface, lots of frantic thrashing about going on underneath...

We delivered Mal's History of Rush, Part 1, to at least 24 listeners, and maybe more. Thanks to all those who listened and those who were on the plaza with us and joined the chat.

The playlist was as follows:

Code:

01    Distant Early Warning    Grace Under Pressure    1984
02    Subdivisions             Signals    1982
03    Entre Nous               Permanent Waves    1980
04    Here Again               Rush    1974
05    Tom Sawyer               Moving Pictures    1981
06    The Spirit Of Radio      Permanent Waves    1980

01    Finding My Way           Rush    1974
02    Before and After         Rush    1974
03    Fly by Night             Fly by Night    1975
04    Rivendell                Fly by Night    1975
05    I Think I'm Going Bald   Caress of Steel    1975
06    Bastille Day             Caress of Steel    1975
07    Lessons                  2112    1976
08    The Twilight Zone        2112    1976
09    Something For Nothing    2112    1976
10    Xanadu                   A Farewell To Kings    1977
11    Cinderella Man           A Farewell To Kings    1977
12    Madrigal                 A Farewell To Kings    1977
13    The Trees                Hemispheres    1978
14    Circumstances            Hemispheres    1978
15    Natural Science          Permanent Waves    1980
16    Vital Signs              Moving Pictures    1981
17    YYZ                      Moving Pictures    1981
18    Losing It                Signals    1982
19    Countdown                Signals    1982
20    Afterimage               Grace Under Pressure    1984
21    Kid Gloves               Grace Under Pressure    1984

01    The Spirit Of Radio      Permanent Waves    1980
02    The Camera Eye           Moving Pictures    1981
03    The Necromancer          Caress of Steel    1975
04    Tom Sawyer               Moving Pictures    1981
05    2112                     2112    1976
06    Cygnus X-1               A Farewell To Kings    1977
07    Cygnus X-1 Book II       Hemispheres    1978
08    By-Tor and the Snow Dog  Fly by Night    1975

And after we'd finished the list, I went on to play some more tracks from the albums listed above, since I was having a lot of fun and there was still an audience who were happy to hear more :) I have no idea what I played as I was picking tracks on the fly from my collection, but it seemed to go down OK :)

I expect that the technical difficulty that caused all that frantic work will be overcome by the next show, which will be in two weeks time, 26th July, and will be Part 2 of the Rush history.

Meet in the plaza - concert will start at 1300 KI and run till 1500 (that's 8 to 10 pm UK time, 9 to 11 pm Western Europe) with some pre-show and post-show music so you can tune in your music players to the stream.

I took the liberty of creating a calendar event over at the GoMe and promoted it on our usual social networking sites (Nev's busy this week).

Cheers! :D

Small quibble on the GoMe post ( , I know): most of Europe understands better CEST (UTC+2). Not even the UK are on GMT during summer :)

Radio Free D'ni had a much better time last night, only a few issues that we had to manage behind the scenes and which didn't affect the presentation to any extent. The perils of presenting a live show: but we still had a good time and hope you did too.

We did seem to lose a little time somewhere though, the music should have had a duration of 1 hour 40 minutes on its own, which usually results in a 2 hour show after we've added our frivolous comments, so we are not too sure where we lost about 15 minutes. Investigations continue...

Mal's History of Rush, Part 2, went out to at least 18 listeners, and probably more as I know that some were not able to stay for the whole event, or joined us later. Thanks to all those who listened and those who were on the plaza with us and joined the chat.

The playlist was as follows:

Code:

Pre-show
01   Mystic Rhythms    Power Windows, 1985
02   Force Ten         Hold Your Fire, 1987
03   Driven            Test for Echo, 1996
04   Show Don't Tell   Presto, 1989
05   Secret Touch      Vapour Trails, 2002
06   Dreamline         Roll the Bones, 1991

The Show
01   Marathon               Power Windows, 1985
02   Grand Designs          Power Windows, 1985
03   Second Nature          Hold Your Fire, 1987
04   Mission                Hold Your Fire, 1987
05   War Paint              Presto, 1989
06   Available Light        Presto, 1989
07   Roll the Bones         Roll the Bones, 1991
08   Where's My Thing?      Roll the Bones, 1991
09   Between Sun And Moon   Counterparts, 1993
10   The Speed of Love      Counterparts, 1993
11   Totem                  Test for Echo, 1996
12   Limbo                  Test for Echo, 1996
13   Ghost Rider            Vapour Trails, 2002
14   Peaceable Kingdom      Vapour Trails, 2002
15   How It Is              Vapour Trails, 2002
16   Heart Full of Soul     Feedback, 2004
17   Shapes of Things       Feedback, 2004
18   We Hold On             Snakes & Arrows, 2007
19   Malignant Narcissism   Snakes & Arrows, 2007
20   Spindrift              Snakes & Arrows, 2007
21   The Anarchist          Clockwork Angels, 2012
22   Wish Them Well         Clockwork Angels, 2012

Post-show
01   Stick It Out          Counterparts, 1993
02   Far Cry               Snakes and Arrows, 2007
03   Test for Echo         Test for Echo, 1996

06   Headlong Flight       Clockwork Angels, 2012

Rush have occupied their own niche between Hard Rock and Prog, sometimes leaning one way or the other, and a good selection was available in this show. As usual I've included album titles so you know where to go if you want to find certain tracks.

The next show, on 9th August, will mark our first anniversary as Radio Free D'ni, our first show was on August 17th last year. We have an idea to do a Memory Lane or a review of the highlights of our first year of shows, picking some of the best tracks from the shows we've done. I have to check for holiday dates for the team as well, to make sure we can all be at the microphone.

Meet in the plaza - concert will start at 1300 KI and run till 1500, that's 8 to 10 pm UK time (Western European Time), 9 to 11 pm for locations from Spain to Sweden (Central European Time) with some pre-show and post-show music so you can tune in your music players to the stream.
