I think a better question would be put to the linguists: Do they have ... a collection of known discrepancies that RAWA can go to?

Anything related to passive forms; RAWA apparently changed ideas from one sentence to the next with those

You're suggesting that his thought process changed, but perhaps these are actually intentional subtle differences.

I have no interest in actually debating this point; just wanted to add some fuel to the fire. ;)

Thanks, but we have plenty of fuel ourselves. Just look at any of the other topics we derail. :P

And yes, that's a not-so-subtle hint.

I rather doubt the hint was aimed at you Tai! ;)

Nevertheless, I agree, let the linguists battle it out between themselves.

Another one: for some reason, in the Schoolroom imager Gehn addresses just one student (“keebahem revaht”) instead of the whole class (“keebahtee revaht”)

The fact that it's a recording might be interfering with the singular/plural distinction: Gehn wasn't actually talking to multiple people, after all.

Or maybe D'ni groups the partititive (each of you) with the singular, rather than the plural.

Or maybe it’s the reflexive form; the problem in context is that he’s clearly addressing a group (he looks around approvingly, as if he was there), and that that is a D’ni class, which would suggest the use of a simpler language.

Or maybe someone gave the wrong lines to Keston.

A couple things of note in Rawa's greeting: a new (though not unexpected) pronoun bivrov 'everyone' and the construction chev b'shemtee with a be phrase rather than a direct object. Given Rawa's disclaimer, the latter might be an error, but there could be influence from the nominal construction chevtahvtee be X.

Continuing the “backlog of questions for RAWA” theme: would it be possible to release the full, official translations of (at least some of) the following texts?

  • Atrus’ Prayer
  • Gehn’s Journal
  • Kadish’s Note
  • Kenen Gor
  • Bevin Podium Speech
