While not what we may have expected, I am very satisfied that the game is as far along as it is. And, my 2 cents only, while something of an "alternate interpretation", going to an open beta on the 12th qualifies in my book as something of a "release." Not the release of the finished game, but then, if it was finished, the end would be written. :)

I am in absolutely no hurry. This so far is a wonderful holiday treat.

:D

Regarding the page in the Hood book being added, NO, for me, I linked to the Hood balcony and the page was not added to my Hood book.

City book is working fine so far.

According to GameTap, open beta will run from December 12 to 18. From that one could surmise that Uru Live will be available for subscription after the 18th; ready or not. But only time will tell.

My current Preview Goodie List can be found below:

Please feel free to add to it or post corrections :)

I assumed this preview is not open beta as it's only open to GT members and we will have a true open beta sometime after that. Mind you, I could be wrong. I'd love for the game to be ready to go live soon.

Although I must admit after today's update I've had three CTD's. Thats pretty serious and needs to be fixed before letting people in imho.

I am not sure what a "true" open beta is :? I have played several games that purported to be in "open beta" that required you to be a member of some subcription group or another so if this "open beta" is limited to GT subscribers that would not surprise me.

After all, the lure of open beta tends to draw in potential customers.
For example: Join Uru Live Open Beta and get GameTap Free for one week! If you like it pay the fee and continue to play!
(As you can tell I am a REALLY bad copy writer LOL)

Open public beta is when there is no NDA and anyone can use it without being a member of something.

The ones I was referring to were not under an NDA, but still required you to be a member of something for marketing purposes and the number of people allowed in was not limited.

I guess the real open beta issue is why would UL be available to non-GT subscribers when Cyan and GT have both said that UL will only be available through GT in the US and Canada?

I suppose we could try to define "sneak peak" instead
Notice Cyan doesn't say what kind of beta this will be!

GameTap is giving its subscribers a sneak peek at the game to get feedback on what people think so far. A beta version of Myst Online will launch within GameTap on Dec. 12.

RAWA has defined this portion as "Ajar Beta."

Ok well I must say this 'update' has fixed a couple of things and broken several more. I hope they get it all worked out soon. I'm getting a bit miffed at 4 CTDs a night every night I play (minimum).

However, that post is somewhat ambiguous (perhaps deliberately). I think he is calling it "Ajar Beta" because he acknowledges that it doesn't completely meet the definition of Open Beta. However, it is not clear that there will still be an Open Beta. His wording to the effect that the Preview and Sneak Peek are "additions" to the beta plan would imply that there is still an Open Beta to come afterwords. However, his resetting the Cautious Optimism equilibrium point for the Sneak Peek, something he said he was going to do for Open Beta, may imply that Sneek Peak is as close as we are going to get to an Open Beta. I don't see anything definitive in his words, so I would not be surprised to see Uru go live within a few days of the end of the Sneak Peek.

I have heard from a very reliable source (well, the source) that preview will transition into open beta. However, just what official name it will have, I do not know (and perhaps nor do they).

GameTap had a trailer/commercial in their main game vault interface. It said "Coming Soon in December"

I was just wondering, though. It has been said that there would be guests and Explorers. It would be hard to have a free section within the Gametap interface. I was wondering if the current access method, that is the seperate interface, will be how the game will be implemented, when Live goes live. It would make sense. I hate having fancy, flashy things running in the background, while I use a program that doesn't need it & needs all the help it can get. The [loud] commercials before each game are a little annoying too, but understandable. Atari Adventure brings back memories. A Colossal Cave age might be interesting.

I had to flip pages in all of my books to get back to the actual linking pages. Then I went through and got all the pillars again, sent them back, and now I have a lovely fissure in my Relto, which didn't close up after running through the endgame sequence. I'm also going back and getting the Relto pages again.

I'll have to go back to Gira to get the rooftop link to establish the city book, though. Didn't have the book at all previously.
