Same name
But I have an idea that UU won't run much longer after Live i hope I am wrong.
Haven't heard anything definite recently about them keeping it running
since they now have the Free Guest explorers in live.

D'mala isn't set to last. Kagi won't be turned off.

Right, if for some reason Uru Live isn't commercially available in your area at launch, you will probably be able to play as a Visitor and still reach the community that way.

A more relevant question would be whether the Visitor client will work reasonably well over dialup or not. Unless Cyan specifically codes the client to refuse to work over slow connections, it could work (just as Until Uru works). Visitors wouldn't visit new areas frequently, so theoretically you'd be fine once you had downloaded all of the Ages you could visit as a Visitor.

Before anyone says it: I know Uru is intended for broadband. And I have broadband myself. I'm just saying, that it would be nice if the Visitor client works for dialup community members, so that we don't lose them. I'm not asking Cyan to do anything special to make it work; I'm asking that they not attempt to prohibit it. :)

That won't be Cyan's call, Marten, it will be GameTap's.

Now that we've announced Uru Live's renewal, we've been asked to clarify our position on Until Uru. After careful consideration, here it is.

Cyan is committed to and dependent on Uru Live's success, so we are putting everything we have into it. Since our resources are limited, we cannot actively support Until Uru as well. With that said, we have no intention of taking back what we've made available - we intend to maintain the auth server so existing users of Until Uru can continue to access their Until Uru shards. However, because we're moving on to Uru Live, we've decided not to issue any new Kagi keys. We encourage any new users who want a taste (albeit an imperfect one) of Uru prior to Uru Live to visit the D'mala shard.

Until Uru was carefully named to convey hope and set expectations. We're excited that the time has come for us to move on.

No D'mala from URU Live day 1.

This is the line above D'L's emboldened part of the quote.

Thanks, D'L.

Edited for clarity.

Yes d'mala, prior to Uru Live.

Rusty is correct - if you analyze the official statement very carefully, and if you understand how Until Uru is running, you'll understand that D'mala has a 99.9% chance of going away when Uru Live begins.

If there is still debate on this, I'll break it down to small bite-sized pieces when I get back from breakfast.

In my testing, I found that the barrier to dial-up wasn't even downloading age data. It was downloading the python.pak file at the beginning. It took so long, that it actually timed out.

That piece D'Lanor posted
That was also posted May 31 a lot of things have changed since then on many fronts. :)
Thats what I meant haven't seen anything recent posted about it.

My guess they will turn it off and the auth server will go underground
I know there is one or 2 out there but would Cyan Gametap be willing to look the other way or take it as a threat??????

I hope they don't as we have many that can't access live for many reasons
and this will be there only Uru fix.

I don't see any reason to assume that Cyan won't keep their word. All they have to do is keep the auth server running, which isn't much work at all.
