It's where your character and all of the progress your character has made is deleted and you're forced to start all over again.

HOWEVER the good news is this should be the last vault wipe. Ever. Beta testers who've been around for a few months have had to endure quite a few vault wipes, so everyone's happy to hear there should be no more after this last one ;)

And just to clarify a tad further, the reason for them to occur usually has to do with the techs wanting to implement a bug fix which may not work if old data is present in the vault.

Yes... a Vault Wipe is where all data is cleared from the database. This includes all data relating to your avatar. therefore, you have to start a new Avatar from scratch.

It's nice to know that i'll be able to settle down to a Relto and not have it deleted a few days later ;)

Last wipe is before launch, yes?

BTW...where do we go to get current announcements about wipes, etc?

I find myself scouring these pages for hints and updates.

Most developer news is in the Beta "From The Developer" forum or the Public Preview "From the Developer" forum.

Thank you, but I can't find any announcement of tonight's wipe or of the 20th new content anywhere, although everyone is talking about it. I'll keep looking. Thanks.

There isn't an announcement yet. Speculation about the timing (PST / EST) is in another thread.

lol...thanks, Rust, I've been to the speculation thread. I'm just looking forward to running through the Ages again. Somehow, I never get quite tired of it.

Was on GameTap to download the Live beta and couldn't. Advert. says it will be available December 20th with all areas open and a preview story line. Got a feeling it's going to be crowded in the Cavern on the 20th.

The vault is the nick name of the database that holds all informations including your avatar data and your game progress.

You can. It's called reincarnation. Your avatar loses all memories of past lives, just like a vault wipe.

There, now you've got something to look forward to when you die.

Seriously, why would you want to restart from scratch in life? You'd know nothing, have nothing, and be in exactly the same spot as you originally started from, and likely to make the same (or similar) mistakes the second time. Live your life and be happy, instead of wishing to get rid of it. Work from the present, and make the future brighter, instead of trying to turn everything to darkness again.
