I did my first-ever broadcast, for UCF Music Night, 2005 June 19. At the time I barely knew what I was doing, having been taught how to broadcast by Donahoo at the Tapestry Happy Hour about a week and a half earlier.

UCF was the Uru Christian Fellowship, started by Andrew C. We wanted to get the name out there, and my background plan was to do some kind of regular musical event to promote healing among the Cavern's many subgroups. Music Night turned into something other than what I expected, so I tried another public event that flopped. Music Night moved to the GoG Shard, then to Great Tree, then to Uru Live and now... who knows? I still broadcast.

That first Music Night all I knew how to do was play entire CDs that had been copied to the computer. I had about 10 available in two main 'tracks: contemplative, and more dance-oriented. We ended up doing the contemplative and that set the tone for successive Music Nights. Uru music, Loreena McKennitt, Riven music. It worked well enough that folks wanted to continue, so I gradually moved my music to the PC and learned how to play individual songs. Eventually I even learned what a playlist was.

Somehow the word went out. Ashtar asked for music for his Great Tree anniversary party. Then I started alternating with Donahoo for the Happy Hour. Eventually I started "Up On the Roof!" as a one-man event. It expanded to a 10-hour extravaganza to accommodate Europeans, with the great help of the Rooftop Volunteer Group. And on we went until the Cavern closed.

Becoming a DJ was easy. Staying as a D'niJ wouldn't have happened without enthusiastic audiences. So, June 20 is the day to celebrate all those hundreds of shows. I don't know what the future holds and am not going to worry about it. For now... (in the words of Ace)

Let's rock!
And waltz
And sing ballads
And go chicken trucking
And jig
And hornpipe
And minuet, sonata, passacaglia and anything else I can think of. This will be the day to pull out all the stops. I'll be talking, too. You have been warned.

Aderyn has offered her space in Second Life for a hangout. Music comes with the space so you just turn on your sound in
SL.

Show starts at
10:00 US Pacific
11:00 US Mountain
12:00 US Central
13:00 US Eastern
17:00 UTC
18:00 British
19:00 Central European
(corrections provided by Christian)

Wherever you are, you can tune in the music on any media player through the wonders of Shoutcast, server kindly provided by Ashtar. Open this URL:

Just to prevent some confusion: Zulu and Central European are not the same thing. Zulu is UTC = GMT. Central European is UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 in summer. (And this time you mixed up the US time zones as well :).)

The time you're looking for is probably

10:00 US Pacific
11:00 US Mountain
12:00 US Central
13:00 US Eastern
17:00 UTC
18:00 British
19:00 Central European

I'll be sure to tune in, although I probably won't take part in Second Life. Your music provided a very nice background to my evening yesterday!

Thank you for sorting that out. This should teach me not to post event info when I'm wiped out from a previous event. :)

Wow, four years! That certainly calls for a celebration. I've missed your broadcasting and playlists for so long and now, in one day, we're going to get four years worth? Gotta go stock up on the tissues.

Congrats LordChaos with your 4th anniversary as a DJ! :-)
I've enjoyed your DJ-ing so much for the last 1,5 yrs! (sorry I missed the other 2,5 yrs)
The radio party is on my calendar, and maybe I'll log in to SL as well (is it appropriate here to ask for the SLurl?)

Thanks for posting the URL, Tai.

Once you reach Second Life--if that's where you decide to go--PM me, Ktahdn Vesuvino, and I can teleport you. So can Aderyn and anyone else on the scene.

I'm still new and easily confuzzled by all this SL stuff. :) I let the experts handle that.

No need for TPs, LC. That slurl is a direct link to Aderyn's Myst Haven. If you click on it, you'll see a map of her sim and a prompt to log in. Once logged in, you'll have a landmark on your screen which you click to get to her place. Pretty slick, huh?

I can say with confidence that this event will be interesting and fun, whatever else it turns out to be.

Having enjoyed Radio KTDN for most of the years it has been broadcasting, I can also say the music will be just as interesting -- as well as unexpected. Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, tune in just to listen!

I am also happy to announce that the Voluntary Volunteer Rooftop Voluntary Hosts and Hostesses Group will be there in Myst Haven with refreshments of a virtual sort, Murph-Oph for those pesky connecting bugs, and several very seriously nonsensical topics for conversation should said conversation ever at any time start to laaag. The Rooftop Hosting Group doesn't require a rooftop in order to group, so they have decided to re-wet their feet (in whatever land those land) in preparation for what they hope will be a revival of the Takotah Rooftop 'Up on the Roof' pahr-taayyhhs.

I myself will be there will bells on. Now, off to find those bells....

I can't wait. 8) And I have shoes in SL with bells; if I can only find them in my inventory.

Here's a rough schedule for the broadcast.

1000: sign on. We will have a guest lecture from Professor A.U. Dio, Official Frump, on the Application of Interval Timing on the Structure of Organized Playlists.
1100: There will be a round-table discussion of Former Middle Western Modalities of Musical Chromaticity, starring the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets.
1200: We'll break for a commercial message.
1330: Infomercial on Portable Digital Music Players combined with Cell Phones and Blenders. Hey, you can never tell when someone will call for a musical margarita.

Who hijacked this topic? Actually... seriously, sort of...
0930: Leader music.
1000: Sign-on. After that... spur of the moment. :)

Is there any way we can all just go to the Cyan Chat tomorrow while listening? :P

You can meet anywhere, Jamey. I'll be in Second Life because I've discovered I much prefer to see the people I'm talking with. I've tried using chatrooms and just haven't liked the experience.

And the D'niJ is bustling around, gathering records, planning... starts in a bit over 5 hours. Get ready!
