This isn't in response to Rand's messages. Paradox has been working on a KI plugin for pidgin since.. I can't even remember how long, but at least since mid '09. He's just re-targeting this.

If you don't like it? Simple. Don't use it.

"Working" should be taken as a very loose term. In this case, it means I've been planning this since the UU days, but never actually wrote a line of code until this week :P

If you're going to go for Pidgin, I'd like to see a similar plugin for Trillian Astra.

That remains to be seen – it might if these people would otherwise be running around in the cavern. Probably not if they would otherwise not be logged in at all.

So, I agree that such a thing should not be released for public use on Cyan servers without Cyan’s consent. However, that is no reason to stop developing it. We do this for the fun of it and whether we’ll be able to release it is irrelevant (to me at least). Further down the road, on open source servers, we’ll be able to do anything the server operators like anyway.

CW, I'm very impressed with your Pod Clock for the iPhone....

Thanks for mentioning this Mongomery. Terrific app, Christian Walter!! I just d/l'ed it.
It looks like it's going to be incredibly useful. Now, to find the time for that first portal in Tetsonot.

Here's an idea for you. In the next version, how about adding an alarm function that you could set so you could wake up a few minutes before the portal event you are interested in. Or some predicted fauna sighting you think you might want to observe.

I realize there are plenty of ways to set an alarm for any desired time, but it would be nice to have multiple alarms tied together to this app in one handy package.

Way cool. Look forward to the next thing.

I'm really loving this idea. It's actually making me consider buying an iPod Touch or iPhone just for it! I hope Cyan can give full approval, maybe a little bit of assistance even in making it work.

Yeah I wouldn't think it would put more of a load on the servers, since you don't have any actual avatars in the game having to each individually load the game environment. But I'm not great at technicalities either

Thanks! Discussion of Pod Clock is over here, so I have taken the liberty of replying to you there, in order to keep this thread on topic.

I think this is a great idea. The more ways to use the game the more ppl will use it the better the chances on donations the longer Cyan keeps the servers up...

I have no problems logging on any more so I don't think it's an issue.

I will umpteenth that. It sounds like a innovation that adds something different to the cavern experience. Just when you thought it was going to be the same experience, it is new again, and "new again" means donations continue.

So in addition to the usual emoticons in text messages, :-) :-p :-D XD
we will have Ctrl-1, Ctrl-2, Ctrl-3, etc.

Sounds like a great idea. All the talented, creative people make the future of OpenSourceUruLive / MOULagain exciting. Who knows what the future holds?

You won't be able to access their server without their permission, I think.

But its essentially just an Instant Messanger.

Just to put everyone's mind at ease, we (Cyan) are working with Paradox and crew on the KI plugin for pidgin. And of course, when I say working with, I mean they are doing all the work ;-) and we are sharing information and ideas to make it a safe and useable product.

BTW CW, I know I already told you this, but it is worth saying again, the Pod Clock is a terrific iPhone/iPod app!

Thanks,
Chogon

This will be quite a refreshing experience for us, I think. Lots less guesswork, and hopefully a lot less time spent on trying to defend ourselves from the "zOMG HAX ARE EVIL" mentality.
