Probably I would install/reinstall PhysX, see if that helps.

You should also get WXP SP3. And are you sure you have the latest nVidia drivers?

Is this maybe the problem there sometimes is getting widescreen display to initialise?

D'Lanor is usually good on that issue.

I don't think this monitor should have any problems displaying the default 800x600 resolution the game starts up with the first time.

But just in case here is a link to a graphics.ini file which makes MOULa default to 1680x1050. The native resolution of your monitor (1920x1080) is not officially supported unfortunately.

In Windows XP you have to place this file in:
C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\My Documents\Uru Live

Shouldn't it be
C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\My Documents\Uru Live\Init

I have the same problem here. URU is crashing at the exact same moment as Jim_Joat describes. I tried your .ini file but that didn't help.

My setup is:

- Latest URU release 1.893
- Windows XP SP3
- Videocard: Club 3D with ATI HD4670, 1024Mb Display Memory
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor
- 4 Gb internal memory

I hope somebody can help us out. I'm struggling with this problem since the return of MOUL.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks to all for your replies.

I have tried:

--Updating the Video Driver-- boy, was the installed one old!! The new on installed is dated Dec 2010.

--Copied the ini file. I could see flashes while the display mode changed, so it worked, but didn't work.

--Tried changing default display modes to 1680x1050 and 800x600 with no luck..

--Did not install SP3 for XP --Too many things get broken with it installed - I gave up on it.

--Did try install/reinstall PhysX. I don't remember how I knew to install it in the first place. I don't think it was part of the full install of UruLive, which I downloaded from FilePlanet, and installed locally.

Are there other files that I need? The install was such a mess, starting with the download from FilePlanet, that my head was spinning -- and I DO speak DOS, regedt32, etc. My name says it all. It's really Jim_JOAT_MON (Jack of all trades, master of none. And that's where trouble starts!

-Anyway, I ramble. I will post a message at http://support.cyanworlds.com/, but will wait for a while; there is no sense in posting problems in multiple forums!

Thanks all!

If the "install was a mess" it might be worth uninstalling the game a taking a fresh install using the Cyan Worlds downloader: https://account.mystonline.com/download ... taller.exe - Although the end result should be the same, it does get there a different way and might just help (although it takes a little while).

There probably is an answer to this. But as a note of warning: an XP system that cannot survive the SP3 install has way more problems than just getting MOULa to run. I know budgets are tight, but you might consider throwing $350 at the problem and just picking up a nice basic (new!) Win7 system.

Nonetheless, we're all happy to throw ideas at the problem and see if we can knock it over! Do you have Uru:CC or Myst V? Do they run?

Great idea! I have to say though that I had a NVIDIA graphics card until a few months ago and Uru worked fine on that card. Unfortunately I needed the PCI slot under the passive cooling of the card so had to change it to the ATI card because that card had it's coller on the other side...
Meanwhile I had a fresh install of Windows XP SP3 so I'm sure it's not the old NVIDIA driver that causes trouble.

I tried the Plasmaclient last night, and Uru runs fine under this client.

I also uninstalled Physics and went back to the old version which comes with the URU installer. No luck either.

--OK folks. I reinstalled using D'Lanor's link. No joy. I did it again with my monitor set to 1680x1050 during install. No joy.

-- I went to GeForce.com, ran their "Optimize my GeForce" app, and found that my graphics card
does not support Direct X 11, 3D Vision, PHYS X, CUDA, or SLI. Oh well =(

--My philosophy in buying new computer hardware is to buy just below the price for the 'Golly, Gee Whiz, Gotta have the latest and greatest" machines ( e.g. my present P4 was the first to have USB 2.0 spigots, no extra memory or high end graphics).

Then I do some upgrades over a period of 3-4 years. More Memory, DVD instead of CD drive, New mid-range video card, etc.

When something (such as a new game I really want to play) pushes hard enough, I buy that new machine and start all over. I guess that is where I am now.

Again, So Long, and thanks for all the fish.

That's very strange that you couldn't get it working, especially when DX11 wasn't even in existence when the game was made. I sadly don't have much to offer here...

MOULa does not require PhysX hardware support. It runs PhysX in software mode.

As for DirectX, even though Windows 7 comes with DirectX 11 some games refuse to run without DirectX 9c installed. I believe MOULa is one of them. Installing DX9 does not overwrite DX11. AFAIK it only installs any missing libraries.
