I personally believe cyan was completely aware that this would happen - it is after all their engine, they should at least have a vauge idea how it works. ;)

It is not uncontrolled, and only happens to users who choose to continue on after a funhouse event without closing down the client. it is not a problem, it is not against Cyan's guidelines, and it should also be noted that cyan has given explicit permission for the other instances of the funhouse hood, and the funhouse avatar (along with the hood of illusions hood and avatar) to be used for the purposes of events. =)

Personally, I have no problem with what happened (I pretty quickly figured out what was going on based on my own experimentation with mixing Ages in U:ABM), and actually look forward to taking advantage of that particular anomaly and any others that may occur in the future. It might be worthwhile for someone to post a reply to the HoI/FH announcement threads (i.e., a moderator or Cyan) to indicate this issue, so that people won't get worried thinking that they broke something permanently.

I've also had a very funny experience yesterday; I took invisible firefly glow with me to relto, and when I then linked to nexus, the flies were visible again! When I linked on to Ae'Gura, the flies were back to being invisible, but the glow stayed, which I took advantage of by exploring dark corners for a bit :).

I wonder if I can ever try this again, to test if there is something specifically about the nexus that makes the flies visible, or that it was a timing thing.

I think those are great! The more and more people post in this thread the more I love the term "Mixology". There really is an "art" to it ;)
