I suspect it's another one of those in poor taste anti-Obama jokes that have been prominent for the last 4 years.

It's ok, I think Charura and us all have one thing in common. None of us got the joke.

EDIT: Wow, this made it to it's own thread? I was expecting these posts to be gone. Oh well, the night is young. :P

For me 'Obama Uru bucks' sounds lovely somehow ... at least a dream I would
consider as being a possible occurrence at any time not too far in the future ... :D

What, Obama-Uru bucks.... like a Government subsidy?

I can see that.

Myst is an All-American, family friendly game-- designed by a small-business!!!! -- that embraces the concepts of education, problem solving, independence, and also teamwork at times, too. There's already an endowment for 'the Arts'--- perhaps Myst, which is as much art as game, could be on the list?

Hey, if D'ni was in New Mexico all along, then the D'ni were American!!!!! Certainly means Atrus was born on US soil... meaning he could run for President, right? Atrus without doubt is miles above Obama or Romney, as a cantidate.

Edit to add: Family scandals would probably wreck his aspirations, tho... his sons are crazier than the Kennedys.

Hehe, I think the moderator has a sense of humor.

Well, as long as we're derailing the thread here, I'll pick up on Harvey's twist...

I've often thought that Cyan should formalize their non-profit status and seek government grants to continue creating their wonderfully artistic and educational games. But, I would focus on the educational aspect, mostly. What have we learned from them? Harvey mentioned puzzle-solving, independence as well as team-work. There's also math, language, history, anthropology, archeology, geology, mechanical skills, observation skills... I'm sure others can think of more.

This of course immediately reminds me of developments discussed last year,
please, have a look here ... The question was 'Myst for the classroom?' ... :P

... and the headlines back then were ...
PRWeb wrote:
idoodlesoftware inc., an education software company offering innovative solutions to bridge the gap
between traditional and digital learning, announced that it has signed an exclusive, global licensing
agreement with Cyan Worlds, Inc. to bring the award winning MYST franchise, and other titles, to
the classroom. ...

You can read or reread the rest of that story here ... This is idoodlesoftware's website ...

This was indeed exciting and promising news and I don't know where they're all at about
this atm, but following that route I'd say that this could be really something to build upon
and even to acquire some government support through subsidies or development funds ... :)

This is of course starting things in a small way, with smaller bread rolls, so to speak, but
iPhone apps don't make you a rich man or company either, and it'd be a start into sth new
and anything big could come of it on that road ... maybe they're already working on that in
one way or another as it sounded like a contract in the news mentioned above ... :D

Well, to be serious... it actually doesn't soound like a bad idea at all!

I'm guessing Cyan could create some kind of problem-solving game, a-la Myst, where you'd have to go forward in the game & solve the puzzles by either mastering some kind of math techniques, or knowing a bit about history... no TELLING the ways you could apply an educational lesson to a 3d game environment that is as mesmerising and engaging as Myst or the Manhole... but in the course of solving and exploring, you absorb a classroom lesson.

On the contrary, I'm pretty sure, as its creator, Charura must've understood the joke.
I didn't even know it was a joke.
But it still hasn't been explained, has it :?:
