Something Myst-like this way comes

Just completed the whole of Kairo, and it is a very satisfying Myst-like game. Well worth the $8. Or £5.13.

It very much is like another Myst... The right mix of mystery and exploration. And, like Myst, all the solutions are hidden in plain sight.
As for the Kairo world itself... While its individual componants are quite simple, the overall design is decently complex. Each room has a unique atmosphere, and the way they go together make this a nicely immersive environment.

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to share with you a project I found on Kickstarter called Xing: The Land Beyond.

To me, it has a subtle Eastern influence but it also looks rather Myst-like, and the music is pretty good. Apparently it was made by two students for a school project around mid-2012, and after being a runner-up in an IEEE contest they decided to create a game company and see it through completion. Since then they've added another member to the team.

Thanks for pointing us to that, phvolt220 ... Finally 'the call' seems to be heard, maybe
we'll see more of that in the future ... For decades people were looking and longing for
games like Myst or Riven etc. and you can read it everywhere more and more that they're
tired of bloodshed, wars, monsters and shootings and just the whole dark stuff, I'm glad ...

Seems like the Myst fans can finally say, I told you so to the game industry. Games that have that Myst feeling are simply much better than those whose sole purpose is to shoot things.

If the game is as clever as the title, it should be a winner. Xing. It can be read as "Zing" or as "Crossing," like a street sign, e.g. "Pedestrian Xing." In the game, you die and cross over to The Land Beyond.

I'm more amazed than I was before, but I had to stop halfway because I didn't want to get spoiled too much. I'm still debating whether I should finish it. :lol:

What I found interesting from watching that video, the reviewer didn't bother to stop to take notes, draw maps, etc. I don't play the shooter games, but it seemed to me that his movements were similar to shooter game movements. Very quick and smooth, flitting from one place to another. I think I shall donate to this one as well.

I watched the XING run thru. Very nice.

I would not run thru that place, first time thru would be a slow crawl.

Of note to me was that those graphics did not heat up my laptop very much. Could be that is because my PC was not doing the data crunching, and was only displaying a movie, but even movies make my laptop hot.

I think the people who like Myst-like games are - in many cases - in great position to become game designers.

Why? The creativity and patience required to solve a "Myst game" are also the attributes conducive to being an effective programmer or 3d artist. I think some of the people who played the Myst games in the past decade are now entering the workforce and some of them are applying their love of the adventure genre to their work.

The Myst series has clearly had an impact on the industry.
