Hello everyone,

The DMR strikes again !

We recently contacted Tim Larkin, music composer of Myst V and URU: Ages beyond Myst.
He has generously agreed to give us an interview in April. Date to be confirmed.

Please write your question(s) here. We will select some.

This is starting to become a regular thing, cool! I have no questions though.

There are several pieces on the Uru soundtrack that weren't in game. How much did you know about the area they were intended for when you composed those pieces?

1. In the Uru/Myst 5 soundtracks, what do you enjoy the most or feel you've done the best job on?
1.5. What piece do you like the least or think you did the worst job on?
2. In villa from Myst 5, the drum rhythms at the very beginning sound very natural but are in fact quite complex. For pieces like this one, did you plan out the drumming beforehand, or improvise much of it?

What instrument do you compose on? Air Stream, for instance, sounds like guitar music, but I think maybe it's actually a synthesizer that just sounds like a guitar. Or maybe I'm imagining things... again....

Yeah, I think a LOT of the instruments in URU music are actually synthesizers. But they must be world class, because they sound wonderful.

That leads to a question tho...

Do you prefer writing for an orchestra, or performing the pieces yourself on synthesizers?

Actually, I've seen footage... somewhere... of the recording for Air Stream. It was a real acoustic guitar.

I know this has probably been asked before, but...

Any chance the Myst V and Uru soundtracks will make their way to iTunes?

Hi Mous,

I would like to ask whether Tim is currently working with CYAN in any capacity and what his latest projects are

Also,

What is "The ChubbChubbs!" about and how did it feel to win an Academy award for Animated Short Film?

Thanks,

Musica

Mr.Mouski!! Thank you for a splendid plan.

The interview is wonderful. And your DJ is very comfortable on our ears, too.

Tim Larkin was a sound designer of Riven.
I thought that there was the place where sound effects were often similar in MOULa!! :D
