Streaming music: How to?

I have this idea to stream some music for an event I am putting together. Trouble is I don't really know how to do it, what tools I need, etc., Also, I'd prefer a free option... anyone who could point me in the right direction with regards to info, programs, etc. I'd really appreciate it... Thanks!

First, you have to have a broadcast client. The only decent free one I know about is Open Broadcast Software.

Then you have to set up an account with a service. Caster.fm seems to be a popular one, but there are many out there.

Finally, there are many tutorials about it on YouTube.

Depending on your broadband speed, you can do it entirely from your own PC, with no need for a stream casting service - I use IceCast2 as the server, and LiquidSoap as the client, but there are plenty of other choices.

But are they free? That was part of the question.

If you're not technical-minded at all, this is crazy simple... I use a free streaming site called "Ustream" and just select the 'stereo mix' of my desktop as the audio input. Then I just play songs on Itunes.

Sure, it causes a few problems with what your avatar can hear in Uru... sound effects & things people say in voice chat, end up echoing in the stream-- I just consider that a price of simplicity.

Unless you stream from a computer you aren't playing the game on?

Ustream is meant for video feeds, though. I'll have to check and see if just broadcasting music is a violation of terms.

...ToS just says "video and audio content", so that seems to be unspecified.

B.U.T.T. (Broadcast Using This Tool) is another free stream client that works a bit like that - it just echoes whatever audio comes off the PC, although it also allows you to record the result and then replay that (so you can prepare your stream offline and record it, then replay it once you're connected to the server).
