D'ni monograms by yours truly

A variation of the sunburst design. I wondered how it would look if I removed the torus and just had it looking like a cut-out metal badge.

This reminds me of the unit patch of the last National Guard outfit I served with, the 40th Infantry Division, aka the Sunshine Division (it's based in California, the "Sunshine State"). Their design is a yellow sunburst on a blue diamond. But on the field uniform, the subdued version is a black sunburst on an olive field.

In the peculiar humor of soldiers, the subdued version of the patch is called the "exploding a**hole".

Larry these look fantastic! I love the sliver of shine that you've incorporated in them. If I had to choose a favorite, I think I'd choose Zesty and Kirk's. The gold and purple choice was a real nice combo and makes the design really POP! Keep up the good work

That's not a bad job at all on your sig picture. I've never tried to get a reflection like that.

Thank you. Honestly, I found a D'ni Font, and I've been told it's not exactly correct, but the photo was pretty simple. Just followed a tutorial for Photoshop. If you're interested, I could find it for you.

Doubt it would help, since I use Macromedia Fireworks 8. If I ever need to, I'll have to find a Fireworks tutorial.

I have no idea how to read or write D'ni and I got it from a Guild website I believe, so I assumed it knew what it was doing. Sorry if it's really wrong...

It's not a big deal. There are a lot of D'ni script words or phrases in the game that are misspelled as much or worse. A great example is the writing on the paper lanterns hung in a lot of the residential neighborhoods. They read "thishā ioysha lantārn" ( TiSA iOSa lantArn ), which is a really badly butchered rendition of "this is a lantern" in D'nEnglish.

The letter mapping in the D'ni fonts is pretty inconsistent. Most of them give alternate sounds by pressing the shift key, but k is an exception. You have to press the shift key to get the base k sound instead of the alternate "kh". There's no c in D'ni writing, either, and there are very few doubled consonants. We use k by itself to represent ck.

Slightly off my own topic, I've been working at saying "happy birthday" in D'ni, and I've come up with a few variations. All of them were too long and wouldn't look good in cake icing.

The problem is that while we can fake a work for birthday from existing vocabulary, there isn't a word for happy.

This is what I've more or less settled on as being short, pithy and to the point, which is what the English greeting is about.

For the many who can't speak or read D'ni (and really, other than folks like me who have way too much time and not enough of a social life to do anything useful with it, who cares?) it reads "vokanyar ram b'fasee". That's literally "birthday good to twenty-five". You can take that as "fabulous / outstanding / excellent birthday". With the current lexicon, that's about as close as I can get to it.

Please give me two or three more things if possible. Two is too few to fill up a circle. Again, job, family, pets, hobbies, anything that you feel might set you apart from the next guy.

Using Yeesha's as an example, she has four: volcanoes, birds, spiral hands, and linking books. The volcano outlines represent the cleft and Tomahna, the birds represent her nickname of 'desert bird', the spiral hands represent her journey, and the books represent her Writing.

For the monogram itself, JayRho in D'ni would be jAro

Or we could just use the initials JR = jr

Which would you prefer? They will look something like this, although I'll need to refine them more.
