An alternative translation would be vokænv'ja, lit. "birth celebration" (since people frequently celebrate their birthdays a few days before or after their actual birthday, whenever's most convenient)

A while ago I proposed a similar translation, using lorahgets (supposedly “joyful” or “graceful”) :) .

Hmm. That would be a good one, except that lorag is an unconfirmed word, and there's only one sentence it appears in. The meaning of "grace / joy" was assigned tentatively based on context, not because there is any real clue about whether it's accurate. It could mean something entirely different.

If I were to use that, it would be the same way we do in English: voKanyar v'ja, "birthday celebration".

You're using å instead of a in vokan? Where did you find that spelling? I've never seen an example of vokan written in D'ni in a canon source, so I've been assuming it's a, because that's how it's written in the D'ni Dictionary.

Okay. Gray, blue and black for colors. Music, Christian symbology, golf, fishing, books, photography, and autumn. That gives me plenty to work with. We'll see what I do with it.

For JayRho. The monogram is "JR" ( jr ).

(Image moved down in topic)

The general idea is that the monogram and shapes are metal parts that are soldered together and placed over a brushed metal ring.

Not quite sure where I'd add black to the base, but the personal glyphs are another story.

Which dictionary are you using? This one has 'vokan' with æ (but then again, it seems to write all words with no confirmed pronunciation with 'a')

That's the one I use. I'd scanned it before posting and didn't see the å in any of the spellings of vokån there. But yes, he can be inconsistent.

I need to find a list of all the words that use å and update my copy of the dictionary.

Okay, added 3-d black edging to the steel overlay. Adding blue to the monogram would involve making a mask and isn't very easy for me. The lettering is solid that I applied the steel effect on top of, so it's a single piece. It might look good as a cutout, but that's a little beyond my skill level for now. The crosses and arches are cutouts because I generated them that way; I can't do that with the D'ni letters.
