So my launcher downloaded (and seemingly successfully installed) an update for the game recently and ever since then I've been unable to start the game with UruExplorer.exe suddenly behaving very unstable and crashing whenever I try to interact with the login window.

I don't know if there was an "official" update released recently but since I launch the updater every few weeks or so I guess thats the case.

Is this a known problem or does anyone have any suggestions how to deal with it?

I think MOULa is down at the moment. Check out the latest post by MDogherra under the first heading "Announcements and News. " I wasn't able to log in either. It looks like they are working on it.

Yes, the latest update, a few weeks ago, was only a very small one to add a new T-shirt design and didn't affect any of theclient code. However, there was a server related problem that sprang up last week that caused log in problems. An attempted fix didn't last and the problem is ongoing.

So these log in problems include crashing the launcher/game?

Anyway, thanks for the quick reply, I'm hoping these issues will be resolved sometime soon so I can enjoy the game again :)

I got in last night, without difficulty. But today (around 5 pm ki time) I can't get in. I get an update, then the login page appears - I enter password, and another update window appears, with a frozen progress bar .... and then Uru.exe crashes.

Tried about 10 times.

So - what ever was 'fixed' this morning .... has either broken again, or the 'fix' is the problem.

Same thing just happened to me. Enter password and then launcher goes "poof." I noticed cavcon level wasn't posted in launcher. I think that means something. Server issue?

UGLYDOG, as Mac_Fife mentioned, the problem is server related, NOT new clothing related. the new clothing items have been added a few weeks ago while this server problem occurred last week. the clothing items have been tested in TOC shard which is MOULa based as well as in MOULa itself, been available there for more than 30 days without causing any problems. so this problem has nothing to do with the new clothing items. it is server related.

The reason the launcher (aka patcher) is crashing on start is because it relies on http://support.cyan.com/ to get the status line that includes the CAVCON number. And has nothing to do with the last couple updates to clothing.
If you get this crash, you can do a quick check by trying to go to http://support.cyan.com/ and if that site is down then that is why you are crashing.
Personally, I don't know why the support site keeps going down but it is something that Cyan despartely wants back up because it not only affects MOULa but affects customer service for all of Cyan's products!

BTW, there is a fix by the fans for this crash that has been in the works but has not made it to the MOULa servers yet.

No. The shirts have nothing to do with it. The problem is that the server that provides the status message during login has gone faulty. When this happens the standard game client will almost always "timeout"waiting on that status message and then exit. In very rare cases you might manage to complete the login process before that happens and you can then play normally. There are clients that don't poll for that message and are not affected by the issue but that also means you won't see when the Cavern is closed or what the CAVCON state is. There is an update in the pipeline that still requests the message but stops the game exiting if the message isn't available.

[Edit: I started this post then had to get in the car for 20 minutes before I could finish it and Chogon beat me to it :) ]
