Hello,

I want to start playing Uru on my new laptop but I am getting the message: Program can't start because it is missing MSVCR71.dll.
Is this a problem on my end?
Would love some input, thanks.

See this post.

But do you already have an account? Because currently there is no way to make a new one.

Did you unzip the dowloaded file and put the .DLL files in the same folder that urulauncher.exe is in? If you have done that then you should not be seeing the same error message.

Yes.. Just to be sure.. The download I get is this download here: https://www.fileplanet.com/209790/20000 ... ient-v.887.

However, when I go to that download, at the top of the page is this message:

Note: FilePlanet is no longer being updated and is in the process of being archived.

In the Uru live folder you should have:
Code:
avi\
dat\
sfx\
eax.dll
msvcp71.dll
msvcr71.dll
msvcrt.dll
NxCharacter.dll
NxCooking.dll
NxExtensions.dll
OpenAL32.dll
PhysX_Setup.exe
PhysXLoader.dll
ReleaseNotes.txt
resource.dat
TOS.txt
UruExplorer.exe
UruLauncher.exe
wrap_oal.dll

The link korovev gave you is to Chogon's post which offers a download directly from Cyan - not FilePlanet. Your FilePlanet download link is for the client - not the fix to the client.

Chogon's post is here:
viewtopic.php?p=420786#p420786

It offers the download from here:
http://account.mystonline.com/download/ ... tFiles.zip

Those installers are so ancient, you end up redownloading most of the datafiles

Nothing wrong with that, as long as they all arrive.

I am still confused where to download. When I go to the home page I click on play and get a few options:

Cyan Worlds run MOULa Server:

Click here to create a MO:ULagain account.

Click here to recover your MO:ULagain password.

Download Mirrors:

Fileplanet (Full Install - Recommended)
Atomic Gamer (Full Install)
AusGamers (Full Install)
Cyan Worlds (Downloader)

I have chosen the File planet one and that takes me to this page:

https://www.fileplanet.com/209790/20000 ... ient-v.887

Is that the correct download?

Your original post to this thread indicates that you have already downloaded the client, got an error because of the missing dll, and now you just want the download linked to in Chogon's post.

(revising my post to add this to the top):

Here is a link to get the missing dlls files http://account.mystonline.com/download/ ... tFiles.zip

Unzip this file and copy the files msvcr71.dll and msvcp71.dll to where you have UruLauncher.exe installed.
Do that.

(for whatever reason, I went a different route, documented below)
IF all you need is the MSVCR71.dll file, it can be found as a stand-alone online in various places. It's part of the Microsoft® C++ Runtime Library. It could very well be on a Windows install disk, if I knew where I kept mine. (REDACTED external website) It looks like I'm using version 7.10.3077.0 but I don't remember why I picked that one.

I went thru a lot of side trips and .zip files and installers and fixits for no good reason back when I needed that file.

catherwood, it's ALREADY available from Cyan at the URL posted several times now in this thread. No need to post yet another path to confuse the issue. I think Cyan can be considered a "trusted source." ;)

sorry, yes, I have amended my post. I don't remember why I couldn't find it at the time, and I've documented what worked for me, but I don't recommend it. Sometimes it's necessary to post the original instructions instead of linking to them. I know I was confused. I hope this reduces confusion. (Perhaps I'll just delete my external link now.)
