The route has been planned and will be posted soon. Contact SuperGram Baar by IM in SL if you want to participate or march as a group....time is short so please let her know if you want to participate or help organize....The D'ni Voice (SL newsletter over D'ni Refugees to keep our community connected) is also looking for folk to be photographers or reporters for this event....contact Editors DeAnn Dufaux or DMom2K Darwin if you are interested.

Additional information can be gotten if you go to D'ni Refugee Group - notices and check the posting under The D'ni Voice...information will be posted daily this entire week.

Planning Meeting
Wednesday
1:00 SL

Get our your GREEN.....for The 5th Annual D'ni
St. Pat's Parade and Party....to be held this year in SL....Saturday March 14th....beginning at 1pm SL time. Grand Marshall will be Thend Destiny. Thend has done tremendous things for the Community and has continued over the past year to keep us all connected as a community so many of us feel he deserves this honor. Following the parade a party will be held at my place which in addition to the St. Pat's Day celebration will be my official SIM opening party.

Colorado and Anarta have graciously provide their amazing reproduction of the cavern for the event. They have mapped out a great parade route....beginning at the Museum and ending in the Concert Hall. We will post it here soon.

Time is short so I'm *really* appealing for help in organizing this event. I'm looking for anyone who would like to march as:
1. Honor Gurard
2. Bagpipers and Drummers
3. Coordinators to organize marching units for their Group. (Group practice is necessary believe me) So not to interfere with any Concert Event held there, it's best to practice during a weekday or contact Colorado or Anarta to see if it's available at the time you wish to practice.

I'm also looking for anyone who would like to participate in the "River Dance" at the climax of the parade on the Concert Hall stage. Several of us have tried it and it's fun....but will take some practice to dance in sync. So I'll need someone to organize and coordinate that. In addition, if anyone would like to sing some Irish songs following the River Dance.....please IM me and let me know.

**I will be holding a meeting this Wednesday...Feburary 25th at 1pm SL time to organize a Parade Committee. (see LM above for the meeting)**

We have a great deal more here in SL to work with than we had in Uru.....so please come and help me make this a fantastic event....

**The D'ni Voice is also looking for reporters and photographers to help cover this event. Contact Editors DeAnn Dufaux or DMom2K Darwin**

Now that GoMa's site is back up... there is a help page there for those that would like to visit SL, see: SL Visitors Help Document If just you want to make a quick trip in just for the parade, this is the help page to get you going (skip down to the heading Public Information and Resources). Drop by and see your friends. I suggest making a preliminary foray so that you are not overwhelmed the day of the parade. Plus we need to get you in green...

If you want help from a friend once there, you need their first and last name to IM them. In the upper right is a little tiny search box. Type in the full name and click search. The name will come up in the search results with link to their profile page which will have a button to allow you to IM them. From that point on you are in helpful hands. You can look in the who are you in other games threads for your friends SL names.

If you have read the shouting matches here and elsewhere and are unsure about SL, visit the help article to get a sense of what SL is like before trying to go there. The article has the links for download and sign up, links to quick video tutorials on SL viewer controls and much more.

Remember. SL is not a game... it is an environment for games and game builders as well as game players. While it has rough neighborhoods complete with red light districts, bars, and escorts... it also has some of the most incredible things too, i.e., model of Sistine Chapel, MadPea's Myst style builds, Desperado Video - 6 min. (impressive lighting), Dr. Who (working Tardis - really is bigger inside), Babylon 5, Dune, Grendel's Children (one of the biggest ever changing quest games and the best dragon AV's ever), schools (M.I.T. & Princeton), The Beautiful Places (the pics there are weak - SL graphics updated since they were taken) and way more.

For those of you that wary and wondering what there is to do other than the parade check out 12 Things To Do In Second Life That Aren't Embarrassing If Your Priest Or Rabbi Finds Out

5th Annual D'ni St. Patrick's Parade and Party to be held in SecondLife....Parade is scheduled for Saturday March 14th at 1pm SL time = PST. It will be held in Ae'gura and begin at the Museum ending in the Concert Hall were we will have following the parade...OnStage...."Riverdance".....Choreographed by Skydiver Peni and is really something to see....Party on my SIM will follow and go on as long as need be....

I've always wanted to have the parade in Ae'ura since the very first one held in UntilUru. I now have my chance and the route is fantastic. The cavern has been reproduced piece by piece by two very talented ladies...Colorado and Anarta. They have done an amazing job and have given us back our home until the day when we can once again return to the cavern....

We are organizing an Honor Guard Pipe and Drum Corp and they look fantastic...See picture below

I was a visitor and Supergram and Dudemom with all participants put on a great parade. The riverdance crew danced the jigs ( what ever name they call it) but was great, Would have nice if the real cavern had all they put into the SL Cavern and the concert hall. Thanks to all and Nvr gives them a bow. :D

What you saw today nvr2old was not the scheduled parade. It was a dress rehearsal. the Parade will be held next Saturday March 14th at 1pm SL time which is 1pm PDT...Remember everyone that the clocks in the US change to Daylight time today. As a matter of fact they just changed 12 mins ago...

In addition....if you can't make the parade...please try to come to the party following the parade. It will not only be the St. Pat's Day Party but it will be a party to mark the official opening of my SIM...

Please come and watch the parade that your old friends have worked so hard on and practiced almost daily to keep the tradition alive. Come in an party with us at my place....Feel free to take a tour of the island. I'm very proud of it and my house that granelda helped me build...She sure taught me a great deal :)....I never in my wildest dreams ever thought I could really build...Just IM me SuperGram Baar and I'll be happy to tp you.

So Come One....Come All and join in the celebration that we've enjoyed so may times in the past...

SG

We are asking participants in the parade to meet at the start point in front of the Museum one hour before start time at 12:00 PM PDT (SL) for group photos and any last minute details or technical problems that need to be worked out. Parade starts at 1:00 PM PDT (SL).

Just some additional information for participants and parade goers...

Alan Kiesler (T_S_Kimball) has drafted up some tech notes to help make this easier on all of us. Keep in mind, these are only recommendations (I found enough good stuff here, this is one notecard I plan on keeping). SuperGram has asked that I post this for her.

In order to have a good time at the parade, please review this notecard and take any steps needed.

[My apologies for the length; It includes many hard-won hints from old and new sources over the years, and is laid out in sections to make skimming easier. --Tim Kimball]

The night before the Parade:
--------------------------------

Please take a moment and do a virus scan and defrag your system. Also, please consider clearing your SL cache (Ctrl-P, Network Tab, "Clear Cache") and re-logging into SL at Eder Gira sim to pre-load everything.

Marchers should make sure they're in the "D'ni St. Pat's Parade" group (march co-ordination will be done through here). It's not available in search, but instead through various user profiles: SuperGram Baar, DMom2K Darwin, Andrew Yossarian, etc. If one profile does not work (due to SL 'shared cluster' issues), try another.

The Day of the Parade:
-------------------------

0) PREPARATION: Marchers should arrive about an hour ahead of time, in order to get any last-minute instructions, prepare various attchments, setup the group chat/voice, allow the sim to load (if cache was cleared), etc.

Spectators should, if possible, arrive 15-30 mins before in order to find a safe spot away from the green arrows (the path of the route). There are plenty of good, open spots to see the marchers, so please spread out just as you would in City.

1) SCRIPTS: Please take off any scripted attachments not related to Parade activities (this especially includes combat/RPG stuff, scanners, and 'multitool' devices - even in HUD form i.e. the KI). This also includes AO (animation override) devices not related to actual marching.

Marchers may use the 'fliptitle' device for identification in photos. Marchers in the Pipe and Drum group may want to edit/move their controlling HUD to the upper-left corner of the screen, rather than the lower-left ( which quickly gets obscured by public chat).

2) CAMERA NOTES: Use of a camera overrider is not a problem, its a client-side script effect and so should not affect the sim. From various personal experiences, the stock camera control will work in most cases anyway. Spectators taking photos (and who have good knowledge of the SL camera) may want to consider disabling camera constraints (Under the 'Advanced' menu - Ctrl-Shift-Alt-D to reach it in Windows).

Camera Tip for Marchers: There are portions of the Parade Route where you will have problems seeing yourself in third-person (in particular, going down the Great Stairs). When approaching these areas, you can go into Mouselook (first-person), and get back out of Mouselook once you're out of the problem area. You can control the use of Mouselook with a scrollwheel mouse; Scroll all the way up to get into ML, and scroll one 'tick' down to get out (you may want to practice this prior to the Parade).

3) GRAPHICS SETTINGS: Using the 'Low' or 'Mid' presets are recommended for most systems, including 'recent' designs. If SL set your default as 'High' or 'Ultra,' you may get better performance by clicking 'Custom' and lowering the Draw distance to 128m or so.

Also (from the Custom options), disable 'Water Reflections' and 'Atmospheric Shaders' if not off already (they're rendering stuff you won't see anyway), and slide 'trees,' 'terrain,' and 'sky' all the way to the left (same reason).

Click on 'Recommended Options' after the Parade/Party to quickly revert any system changes; The current 'stock' viewer does a surprisingly good job of guessing correct settings.

4) CRASH RECOVERY: To prepare for the unfortunate event of a crash, Spectator groups should note the names of their neighbors, in order to IM them for teleport request. Marchers should just teleport to the island (reaching the telehub 'menu' wall) and clicking to the appropriate destination.

Crashed Marchers should get back in line if time permits before the march (Pipe and Drum members need to take into account the time to reset their instruments again), or re-assemble at the Opera Stage if not.

Tips regarding Teleport to Friend: If you swapped 'friends' in order to teleport to them, they need to permit your tracking them. Menu item Edit->Friends, scroll down to the person you want to allow teleport, and enable the second box from the left 'friend can locate you on map.' The island has a telehub, which may override this anyway, so using an IM request (above) will probably be faster.

Voice and Group Communications
------------------------------------

March Coordinators will be using Voice in Group Chat to control the march, including start/stop signals. Most marchers do not need a mic to follow along, just enable Voice (under Preferences) to listen in. Coordinators are recommended to use headphones to prevent feedback (which, at times, can be worse than in TeamSpeak).

Group text chat *will* be lagged and should not be used for critical communications (see QA section at bottom for why). Use Local (sim) or IM.

To setup the group chat for voice (assuming you are using the 'stock' SL Viewer):

1) Join the "D'ni St. Pat's Parade" group, as above.
2) Bring up group chat: View->Communicate, 'Contacts' bottom tab, 'Groups' upper tab, click on the group, and choose "IM/Call" on the right.
3) Enable Group Voice: Click on 'Join Call' at the top of the group chat. The little voice icon should move from the 'Local Chat' tab at the bottom, to the current Group Chat tab. The group chat will also gain a user list on the right, showing who is talking.
4) Sit back and enjoy. The Group Chat (aka Communicate) window will need to stay running to keep voice going (iconified should work).

Default for Push-to-talk (toggling your mic on/off) is the middle mouse button. This can be changed in the Voice Preferences. Status for this is at bottom-right of your screen (Talk button will be highlighted when on).

Muting a user / Volume control: Click on the user. Volume controls should show up for that user under the user list. Click on the 'speaker' icon to mute, or slide the volume control as needed. Be warned that setting the volume too high can make it 'scratchy.'

Fluffy Details / QA
--------------------

Why is Group Chat laggy but Local Chat and Group Voice are not?

--> Group Chat is controlled from the SL 'shared' server cluster, which is now designed to shut off or slow parts of itself to (hopefully) prevent the world from halting at high load.
--> Local Chat is controlled by the sim, so lag there is dependent on how many are there and how much chat is occuring (both there and in neighbor sims).
--> Voice Chat (Local and Group) are controlled by a 3rd party provider (Vivox) using servers outside of SL's control. Think of it as an embedded form of TeamSpeak.
