Feeling a little blue? Concerned about indeterminate delays, mystery programmers, copyright spats, or maybe just the economy?

After a yearlong absence from contributing anything here, I have a new project that I hope you'll enjoy, and take your mind off of troubles for a little while.

PART ONE: 02-July-2009

To begin a journey, unleash your attention-deficit channel-surfing inner child, and turn on UruTV. Available in Macromedia Flash, Windows Media (Windows Media Player 9 or higher required), and QuickTime Video (QuickTime 7 required).

There is a puzzle in the video. Can you solve it? Please remember to put any spoilers about the video into spoiler tags. Thank you.

In related news, I have renovated the webpages for my videos so they are easier to use (I hope - let me know). I've added a "Making of" section for Don't Give Up, revealing details about the video that have remained a secret to most for over a year.

PART TWO: 26-July-2009

Thanks to everyone who participated in the first UruTV puzzle. The first puzzle reward, Fallen, is a journey through the Uru ages with Echo McKenzie. Available in Macromedia Flash, Windows Media (Windows Media Player 9 or higher required), and QuickTime Video (QuickTime 7 required).

A second puzzle revealed: In case you missed it, there is a link to a second puzzle in the credits to Fallen. The link is http://rel.to/moreclues .

ENDING: 6-August-2009

Thank you again to participants, especially to a'moaca' who spent part of her Mysterium visit puzzling over the lyrics to the songs in UruTV, and who solved the second puzzle.

The second puzzle reward and the ending to this trilogy, Something M.O.R.E., explores the ages of Myst Online and Myst 5: End of Ages. Available in Macromedia Flash, Windows Media (Windows Media Player 9 or higher required), and QuickTime Video (QuickTime 7 required).

Great work, Marten! You never cease to amaze me at how you can find good songs and then put images to their lyrics. My favorites in this "episode" were Stand and Free Falling. Awesome! The camera work was really all-around well done too.

:)

clip 1 ) 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12
clip 2 ) 2, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12
clip 3 ) 2, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12
clip 4 ) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9
clip 5 ) 2, 6
clip 6 ) 5, 6
clip 7 ) 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11
clip 8 ) 2, 5, 9, 11
clip 9 ) 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11

These are the numbers I got. They're the same as Vid's but I subtracted a "7" from the first line because I never saw a seven.

Other than that... here's a maybe spoiler:
I took pairs of numbers per line and added them up. (ex: CLIP 1: 6+8(=14 or N) 10+9 (=19 or S) 11+12 (=23 or W)Then I took a letter from the alphabet that matched up.

This is what I got: NSW / GOUL / GNSW / HK / EIOK / GT / GMT

Don't know if it makes any sense or not... but that's what I got.
Ah the numbers aren't in order, that's why I failed to count along. Puzzle time... :)

And the video is really well done! Great work! :D

Yes, Szark and all, indeed... just commented on the Great Tree forums in a similar way
as you all do here... just blown away and knocked off... can't wait to see more... :D

Thought it'd be appropriate to leave another appreciation here as well...
Our Marten is a genius as proven ever so often before and this new masterpiece
really deserves due credit yet again... Love the music and EVERYTHING, every
single detail...

Thanks, Marten... Excellent... /cheer... :D

Sincere thanks, Marten -

Both the URUTV and the "Don't Give Up" videos are emotional and touching.

(but I'm SO curious as to how you got those camera movements in URUTV?!?!?!?!)

Wow !
Thanks Marten, another bit of genius  Wow.

Not to quote EthanEver but, /dance /cheer /clap /salute.

The Maintainer dance sequence @ the Wall was especially nice since I've never been there and the channel 'surf' static' (from Myst ?) is a fabulous touch. Wow some more...

The closing shot http://rel.to/???... immediately reminded me of a quote ' Where do you want to go today?' that Cyan could have used if 'you know who' hadn't used it first.

Anyway,... did somebody around here say WOW yet?

Sorry folks. No clues (at least for now). Several reasons for that (pick your favorite):

* I'm on vacation for Independence Day here in the USA; back home tomorrow.
* The power keeps going out in my hotel room, and I have limited laptop battery. (True story)
* I wouldn't want to detract from your sense of accomplishment
* I have a little more work to do before I make it easier for you, but you WILL know if you've found the correct answer

Thus far, the correct URL has received 0 (zero) hits.

I have a thought. I haven't been able to follow it through, so I don't know if it's correct. The theory, however is attractive and compelling.

You have to open the spoiler to get a possible clue to this puzzle. If you open the spoiler, you'll know forever in your heart that you did not figure it out completely on your own. You've been warned. If it helps you get the solution, I'll take half the prize money. ;)

My thoughts:
This is a video named UruTV.
Nine rows of numbers ranging from 1 to 12 is the same ratio as a standard definition TV (4:3).
The numbers represent the "pixel" position to highlight.

Here's the picture I get:
Image
I've looked at it long enough to know I don't recognize anything. I could be pursuing wild fowl.

I had a completely different line of thought. I think something from the video itself suggests it's the right general direction, but I don't know what to do with it.
I thought perhaps the numbers were words from the song lyrics, so I tried to search for lyrics starting with the first song. While looking at the results for "Burn Me Up, Burn Me Down" I noticed the phrase "big blue ball" as well. Right at the beginning of the video, the beach ball fades to, well, a big blue ball... so I looked into it a bit.

Main site
There is a track listing on Wikipedia

And the shading of the ball in the video even perfectly matches that of the album cover!

It seems there are perhaps 12 tracks if you have a digital download, and the numbers in the video only go to 12, but I don't know if there's anything to that.
Here's where I was going.
I was converting the D'ni numbers into D'ni letters thinking that they were anagrams of D'ni words. The first clip could be "see upon the". I then went to tackle the easy ones. Clip 5 could be "in for" or "for with". The numbers from clip 6 translated into y and kh. This could be the D'ni word "khoy" if I added an "o", meaning "if" or "because" or "when".
But I just don't have the patience for something like this. Just give me a nice mechanical puzzle to solve, please. :D
