Hey all,

Rand had mentioned an Idea alot of us thought was rather neat. A Ki app for your iPhone. This got me thinking, Would there be a way to integrate the ingame communications tool into an external program of some kind? Thinking about it, (And this is quite down the line) If all the Ki's were to sync to a serverpoint which would host your pictures, Avatar, friends list, and maybe even a little pic of your relto that would have different things depending on how you last linked into it.
That seems like it would be the easy part, getting the data, but how would we go about bringing that to a remote 'thing.'

The interface wouldn't be THAT hard but how could we effectively make that link happen?

I know this is a little far fetched but hey, People can use their iphone to use the WoW market place, I think a little update able photo gallery and buddy list would not be hard. Maybe we can make this happen.

I am already working on a plugin for Pidgin and Adium to implement KI Chat out of game. :)

Very cool, thats a perfect start. You think it would be too hard to make a unique interface instead of a plugin?
And speaking of, which do you prefer of those two? Honestly i've been using Xfire for AIM and WL and then Opera for stuff like icq and IRC

Pidgin is a multi-protocol instant messaging program for Windows and Linux, Adium is essentially Pidgin for the Mac.

Paradox, Dekar wrote "integrate the ingame communications tool." I can't tell from your description that your plugin meets the spec. You are integrating with the Uru client's KI chat?

Well I think that's his goal JW. I feel it's going to take a level of cooperation with the cyan team to be able to enable access without direct login to the game though.

The plugin would allow you to chat with people on your Buddy list and your Neighbours list, from Pidgin, without running the Uru client. You would appear to people in-game as being online, and exploring in D'ni-Riltagamin (unknown area of D'ni - aka the surface).

So are you emulating a login?
Faking the server into thinking you are in?

I will be logging in to the server, loading an avatar with the specified KI number, and telling the server that we are in the (private instance) Cleft. Then handling sending/receiving chat data.

In theory it's all easy... in practice the network stuff gets a bit messy. I will post an announcement once I have something more substantial than UI mockups ;)

Yea I see what you mean.

Once you do, let me know how easy or hard it is to pull the chat data in particular. Thats the portion of the communication that is 'hard' The login, not quite as.

Is this something that Cyan actually allows? I mean, you're putting load on the server from people who aren't actually playing the game.
